CrossFit Experience: It’s been a little over 4 years…crazy!!!
Favorite WOD/Exercise: I love all things cardio (minus burpees). Wall balls, box jumps, jump rope, running….love them! The barbell and I aren’t really the best of friends, but I do enjoy workouts that incorporate both (at a light/moderate weight 😉)
Least Favorite WOD/Exercise: Handstand push-ups and toes to bar. However toes to bar is something I’d like to work on post baby and hopefully be able to do one of these days. As far as being upside down…probably not going to happen.
Tell us about yourself.
I’ve been an RN at Akron city hospital for TEN years (Still hard to believe) and I love it! I work 3 12 hour shifts a week which is why my gym schedule is always so random. I used to be a strict 9am-er, but lately I’m all over the place. I grew up in Mentor, but ventured this way due to work, and now my husband of 3.5 years. He’s from Doylestown so you know he’s not going anywhere! We built our home in Wadsworth September of 2017. We have a TALL, beautiful, almost 2 year old baby named Scarlett, which I’m sure most of you have met. I am also currently 23 weeks pregnant expecting another baby girl come April!
Why did you start CrossFit?
I started crossfit back in October of 2015 to get “wedding ready.” My friend, Meredith, was in one of the original boot camps and I kept seeing pictures of her working out all over Facebook. I was intrigued. I then joined and did a bootcamp with her. Bootcamp made me feel like I could do anything, I had such a great experience and the support was amazing. They said “if you could do this, you could do CrossFit!” I was extremely doubtful, but figured staying in shape for the wedding was the ultimate goal so why not go for it!
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
That everything can be modified to YOU! I feel like I’ve gone through so many stages since I’ve been a member here. I was childless and giving it my all to get ready for our wedding. Then I got pregnant and things changed. Then I had a baby and things changed. Now I’m pregnant and dealing with a toddler. Things are definitely different from when I started, but that’s why I love this gym so much. I’m still here and the programming has motivated me to keep going through all these changes because I can altar every exercise to ME!
What motivates you to CrossFit?
Myself and my family. I’m a much happier person when I exercise, even on days I have to modify everything. I figure if I can make myself happy than I’ll be more likely to make my family happy. I also want to set a good example for my children. Scarlett has been coming with me most days since she was 7 weeks old! It’s so cute to watch her “squat” or try to do some movements at home. I truly feel it’s because of what she sees when she comes to the gym with me. I can’t wait for her to be old enough for kidfit!
What is a PR you are proud of?
220lb deadlift!!!!! Now this was pre baby, and I’m not sure if I’ll ever get back there, but I can’t wait to try! I’m also proud of being able to climb the rope. It isn’t consistent, but I’ll never forget the first day I made it to the top. Best feeling ever!
Also, let’s be honest…any workout I finish now is a PR 🤰🏻
What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?
My goal until April is to keep coming to the gym at least 3 times a week and doing what I can. After I’m cleared to come back I hope to continue my consistency with 3 days a week, but I know that it’s going to be tough. Especially in the beginning, but I did it before and I’ll do it again. Between the coaches and friends I’ve made I know I’ll be motivated to get back at it! Also having childcare as an option is a HUGE bonus!! Of all the moves though, I really really really want to be able to do dubs!
What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?
It’s ok to be nervous, I was, but you CAN do it! I was skeptical when I started, and here I am 4 years later. Never in a million years did I think I could crossfit, but I’ve learned that any exercise can be modified and you can still get results! You don’t have to lift heavy or be the fastest runner to achieve your goals. Everyone here is so supportive and the coaches WANT to help you! You aren’t alone, crossfit truly is for everyBODY!
