At a Glance:
CrossFit Experience: I started boot camp in February 2017, joined CrossFit 2 day membership in April 2017, went to unlimited membership in September 2017 and already signed on for another year so I will be CrossFitting until at least September 2019.
Favorite WOD/Exercise: I like to row, do deadlifts, front squats, back squats, bench press and I love Sally!
PR Pride: Being able to do a rope climb on my very first try. I really don’t know how that happened but I impressed myself.
Least Favorite WOD/Exercise: My Nemesis……Overhead Squats! They make me cry.
Tell us about yourself.
I am 46 years old and I’ve been employed at Oriana House for 23 years and my current position is the Agency’s Compliance/Accreditation Manager. I have two kids ages 17 & 4 and got married to my college crush in 2008. We will be celebrating 10 years this September.
Why did you start CrossFit?
So why did I start CrossFit? My answer would be “I had no idea I was starting CrossFit!” Seriously! My friend at work started a boot camp about a year prior and I finally got motivated to “start a boot camp” myself. I struggled to find a “boot camp” that fit into my schedule until I saw a post on Facebook about a boot camp in Wadsworth, right around the corner from my house, with only two days of working out (my kind of commitment), in the evening or Saturday morning for six weeks. I knew no-one, never worked out regularly before, and was really intimidated by “gyms”. I had no idea this was a CrossFit gym. I didn’t even really understand what CrossFit meant.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I cannot just name one. My favorite things are the comfortable feeling I have walking in the door, the people I see working out with me, the coaches who teach and encourage you, doing a different work out every day, and challenging myself in ways I never expected.
What motivates you to CrossFit?
My family; my husband is a huge supporter who encourages me and compliments me on my accomplishments. He is proud of me and that motivates me so much. My kids motivate me to be “fit & healthy.” I want to optimize my best outcome to be here for them for as long as I can.
What goals would you like to achieve in the next year that CrossFit can help you with?
I want to be stronger and for me that means working on endurance and stamina. I also want to focus more on my nutrition and continue to work on my form with movements.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about starting CrossFit, but was nervous or scared?
I would tell them that I understand being nervous and scared, that’s completely natural. I would share my experience(s) with them and ask them to come watch a class, join me for a class and know that I never (and I do mean never) thought I would be working out, regularly, doing CrossFit, at 5AM and actually look forward to it!
